Cardinal Topped by No. 4 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A career-best 13 saves from Kelsey Bing and a gritty team effort on defense wasn't enough to hold off No. 4 Michigan Sunday as the No. 12 Cardinal fell 3-0 at Ocker Field.

The first half belonged to the Wolverines (11-2), who crushed 14 shots at the Cardinal (7-5) putting Bing to work with seven saves in the half. Stanford was able to hold off Michigan until the 19th minute when a save produced a rebound that a chip shot found net with after a video replay. UM added another goal off a penalty corner deflection in the 24th minute to send the game into the half with a 2-0 Wolverine advantage.

Stanford came out with a renewed game plan in the second period, as it was able to make connections and create opportunities, finally putting some shots on frame and the Michigan defense to work. The Wolverines were able to add one last insurance goal in the 48th minute off a corner as a diving Fay Keijer tipped in a shot off a corner to close out Michigan's eighth straight win.

The Cardinal returns west though remains on the road this week as it sets to face conference opponents UC Davis and Pacific on Friday and Sunday.
