INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Junior Sameer Kumar dropped his round of 32 consolation match Thursday as the Cardinal was eliminated from the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, hosted by the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and the JW Marriott Desert Springs.
Kumar came up short in a pair of three-set matches in the tournament. After falling to No. 38-ranked Victor Pham of Columbia, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, in Wednesday's first round of competition, he dropped a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8) decision to UC Santa Barbara's Nicolas Moreno de Alboran in the first round of the 32-player consolation draw Thursday.
The inaugural Oracle ITA National Fall Championships feature the nation's top singles players in a 64-player draw. Players qualified for the event through their performance in the ITA National Championships and the ITA Regional Championships. Kumar earned an at-large selection to the National Fall Championships by reaching the quarterfinal round of the main draw at the IRA Northwest Regional Championships in Stockton last month.
