STANFORD, Calif. – Led by first team selection Michaela Keefe, seven Cardinal were recognized today when Commissioner Larry Scott announced the annual Pac-12 Women's Volleyball All-Academic teams.
An outside hitter from Pacific Palisades, California, Keefe appeared in 15 of the Cardinal's 29 matches during the regular season. She's averaging 1.79 kills per set and registered a career-high 15 kills versus Penn State on Sept. 1.
Earning Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention honors for Stanford were redshirt Merete Lutz, junior Tami Alade, and sophomores Audriana Fitzmorris, Jenna Gray, Morgan Hentz and Kathryn Plummer.
Lutz (Houston, Texas) has already received her undergraduate degree in human biology and is working towards a master's in epidemiology this spring. She is a four-time honoree.
Alade, a human biology major from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, Fitzmorris (Overland Park, Kansas), Gray (Shawnee, Kansas), Hentz (Lakeside Park, Kentucky) and Plummer (Aliso Viejo, California) are all being recognized for the first time in their careers.
To be eligible for the selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor. Freshman and transfer students in their first season with a team are not eligible.
No. 4 Stanford, which received the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, begins postseason play on Friday, Dec. 1 against CSU Bakersfield. The Cardinal and Roadrunners will meet at 7 p.m. in Maples Pavilion after Michigan and No. 23 Colorado State square off at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at gostanford.com/tickets or by calling 1-800-STANFORD.
