Cardinal Falls at Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Stanford and Harvard each won five bouts, but the Crimson came out on top due to criteria, 21-20, Saturday at the Malkin Athletics Center.

The criteria went all the way down to near fall points and Harvard came out on top 12-4 to earn the win.

Sophomore Gabriel Townsell started things off for the Cardinal (4-3) with a 10-5 decision over Nolan Hellickson at 125 pounds. Townsell notched four takedowns and added an escape and the riding time point to improve to 6-1 in duals this season.

Harvard (1-0) won the next three bouts, including a fall in 6:59 by A.J. Jaffe over Isaiah Locsin at 141 pounds, to take a 14-3 lead in the dual.

No. 19 Paul Fox ended Harvard's run with a 21-4 technical fall in 5:18 against Aaron Kruk at 157 pounds. It marks the first technical fall for Fox this season as he improves to 15-4 overall and 4-0 in duals.

At 174, 10th-ranked Keaton Subjeck notched his 20th win of the year in a battle with Josef Johnson. The fifth-year senior held a 3-1 lead going into the final period. Johnson cut it to 3-2, but Subjeck registered three  takedowns and finished with 1:32 of riding time for a 10-4 decision. Subjeck is the first Cardinal wrestler to reach the 20-win plateau this season and improves to 7-0 in duals.

Harvard tallied three more points at 184 pounds to make it 20-11. Stanford redshirt sophomore Austin Flores kept the Cardinal in it with a fall in 3:20 at 197 pounds before No. 7 Nathan Butler tied the dual score at 285 pounds with a 6-0 decision.

Stanford remains on the road next week, traveling to Tempe, Arizona for a Pac-12 dual against No. 9 Arizona State on Friday at 7:30 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks.
