Cardinal Sweeps Cardinals

MUNCIE, Ind. – Behind freshman opposite Jaylen Jasper, Stanford earned its first win of the season with a 25-23, 25-13, 25-20 win over No. 14 Ball State, Saturday, at Worthen Arena.
 
Jasper led all players with 17 kills on .382 hitting and tallied six digs and three of the team's five aces. Setter Paul Bischoff recorded a double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs. He also had four kills and a .444 attack percentage against the Cardinals.
 
Stanford (1-4) hit .245 as a team, while holding Ball State (2-2) to a .066 attack percentage – the lowest by a Cardinal opponent this season. Stanford was strong defensively, out digging the Cardinals 44-29.
 
Redshirt senior Kevin Rakestraw had a season-high five blocks to go with three kills, while freshman middle blocker Kyler Presho went 4-0-5 (.800) and had two blocks and an ace.
 
Freshman JP Reilly made his collegiate debut, recording three kills, five digs and two blocks in two sets played. Senior libero Evan Enriques totaled seven digs and a season-best six assists.
 
Stanford kept Ball State out of system as no Cardinals player posted more than seven kills and two hit negative for the match. Stanford registered a sideout rate of 70 percent for the match, while Ball State was at 52 percent.
 
Stanford returns to The Farm for its home opener on Wednesday against CSUN. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion.
