THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – It will be an all Stanford final on Monday for the Sherwood Cup crown as senior Tom Fawcett and junior Sameer Kumar each punched their ticket to the title match with victories on Sunday.
Fawcett, the tournament's No. 2 seed, will meet Kumar for the singles title Monday at 10 a.m. after defeating UCLA's Keegan Smith in a wild three-set match Sunday. Kumar defeated Cardinal teammate Eric Fomba, 6-3, 6-4, to reach the championship match.
Senior David Wilczynski reached the finals of the consolation draw, before falling to UCLA's Maxime Cressy, 7-5, 6-2, on Sunday.
Doubles action concluded Sunday with the Cardinal vying for the title in both the main draw and consolation draw. Kumar and Michael Genender reached the doubles title match, where they came up short against the USC team of Laurens Verboven and Jake Jaede, 6-3.
The Stanford doubles team of Fomba and William Genesen captured the consolation draw crown with a pair of wins on Sunday.
Following the Sherwood Cup, Stanford will open the spring dual slate against San Francisco on Friday (Jan. 19 at 3 p.m.) and George Washington on Saturday (Jan. 20 at 1 p.m.).
