NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Stanford came up short in a 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 loss at No. 12 CSUN, Saturday, at the Matadome.
The Cardinal (2-10) was swept by the Matadors (7-4) for the second time this season. CSUN hit .256 as a team, while holding Stanford to a .188 clip. The Matadors held a 7-3 advantage in aces and six of their 15 blocks were solo.
Freshman opposite Jaylen Jasper led Stanford with 13 kills on .222 hitting, while sophomore outside hitter Eric Beatty finished with eight kills and three digs. Freshman middle blocker Kyler Presho had seven kills on a .308 attack percentage and two blocks.
Junior setter Russell Dervay finished with 29 assists and matched his career-high with three blocks. Senior libero Jake Stuebner collected four digs and an assist.
The Matadors held redshirt senior middle blocker Kevin Rakestraw to .143 hitting. He tallied six kills and three blocks in the loss. Senior outside hitter Evan Enriques registered a team-high eight digs and had a career-best three aces.
Stanford out hit CSUN, .360 to .345, in the second set. Both teams managed to record just seven kills in the third.
CSUN senior Arvis Greene, who missed the first meeting between the two teams, led all players with 16 kills. Josiah Byers finished with eight blocks, including three solo, while Enriques' younger brother, Emmett, racked up a match-best 10 digs as the CSUN libero.
Stanford closes out its seven-match road swing next week at Concordia on Thursday and at Grand Canyon on Saturday.
