Cardinal Moving Up

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – Stanford posted the third-best score among an 18-team field Monday to move up one spot during the second round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.
 
Stanford's 8-over-par 292 put the Cardinal in fifth place, one spot better than its opening-round finish. At 19-over through 36 holes, the Cardinal continues to chase clubhouse co-leaders Alabama and UCLA at 8-over.
 
The Cardinal was paced by Mika Liu's 1-over at the par-71 Palos Verdes Golf Club. Liu, tied for ninth among individuals, was 3-over through six before closing her front nine with a pair of birdies. She was even-par on the back stretch, putting her at 2-over through two rounds.
 
Liu's second-round performance of 1-over was matched by Albane Valenzuela, who posted bookend birdies during her front nine. Valenzuela is tied for 33rd at 6-over.
 
Andrea Lee (t-14th) and Shannon Aubert (t-42nd) each recorded a 3-over 74. Both posted back-to-back birdies -- Lee on the par-4 ninth and par-4 10th, Aubert on the par-5 seventh and par-3 eighth.
 
Emily Wang had a team-best six birdies, three coming during a three-hole stretch (Nos. 4-6). She finished at 4-over for a share of 64th.
 
Arizona State's Olivia Mehaffey leads the medalist race at 3-under.
