STANFORD, Calif. - No. 4 Stanford arrives in Boston this weekend for the CSA National Championships hoping to take yet another step forward in its quest for a national title.
Coming off a historic 2017 campaign in which it finished fifth at the Howe Cup, Stanford (14-3) has doubled down its efforts in 2018.
Stanford enters this year's CSA National Championships seeded No. 4, also representing its highest national ranking in school history. The Cardinal will square off against No. 5 Yale (10-4) on Friday at 10:30 a.m. PT.
Stanford is seeking its third consecutive win over Yale, having already beaten the Bulldogs 6-3 in New Haven, Connecticut, three weeks ago. At last year's CSA National Championships, Stanford edged Yale 5-4 to capture the tournament's consolation crown.
Adding some intrigue to the budding rivalry is the unique connection between Stanford head coach Mark Talbott and his brother, Dave, who is the head coach at Yale.
The Cardinal enters the postseason riding a four-match winning streak. Stanford has continued its progression as one of the country's best programs, with its only losses coming against powerhouses No. 1 Harvard (9-0), No. 3 Trinity (5-4) and No. 4 Princeton (6-3).
