STANFORD, Calif. - No. 3 Stanford takes a break from NCAA action this week as select Cardinal travel to the annual Winter Cup in Las Vegas, Nev., where Stanford will vie for positions on the U.S. National Team and to represent the U.S. in future competitions.
The competition begins Thursday and runs through Saturday with the Cardinal sending Andrew Bitner, Grant Breckenridge, Robert Neff and alum Akash Modi to represent Stanford. For more information, please click here.
LAST TIME OUT:
Stanford added another huge win last weekend, sweeping five-of-six team event titles in the annual Pac-12 Invitational. Event titles by Connor Lewis, Blake Sun and Joey Ringer as well as a return to action by Drew Burton highlighted the night as the Cardinal scored a 403.600 to top No. 12 Cal, No. 13 ASU and No. 15 Washington
Several Cardinal also set several season-bests:
- Joey Ringer claimed his first event title in pommel horse with a season-best 14.200
- Stanford posted a season-best in pommel horse as a team (67.800)
- Connor Lewis made his collegiate debut on the rings to take third with a 13.100
- Lewis also claimed his career-first event title on vault with a career-best 14.650
- Jacob Barrus took his first event title of the year next on parallel bars with a 13.600
Sweep Life:
The Cardinal stepped up to not only sweep all three of its opponents last weekend, but this season alone it has also swept MPSF and CGA National Gymnast of the Week honors the first two weeks - first by Robert Neff in week one and Ryan Sheppard in week two in his first competition since the NCAA Finals in 2016.
