Splitting In Texas

AUSTIN, Texas - No. 6 Stanford dropped a 4-2 decision at No. 21 Texas on Saturday afternoon to close out its road swing against Big 12 opponents.

Stanford (3-2), which blanked TCU 4-0 on Friday, came away with a split of its trip to Texas, closing out a stretch in which the Cardinal played four of its first five matches away from The Farm.

Texas (7-4) recorded its first win in the series since 1995, when the Longhorns defeated the Cardinal in the semifinals of the 1995 NCAA Championships.

The Cardinal secured an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point, prevailing handily at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots.

Stanford increased its lead to 2-0 when Janice Shin posted a win on court five. Shin won the first set 6-3 and led 1-0 in the second before her opponent retired.

The momentum then shifted to Texas, which ripped off four consecutive wins in singles. The Longhorns cleaned up at the bottom of the lineup, received a 6-3, 6-2 win from top-ranked Bianca Turati and clinched the match when Anna Turati outlasted Caroline Lampl 7-5, 7-5 at the No. 2 position.

Stanford plays its next nine matches at Taube Family Tennis Stadium, beginning with UNLV on Friday, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m.
