Back On Track

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 36 Stanford coasted past UNLV 6-1 on Friday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium, opening a nine-match homestand.

The Cardinal (4-2) has now won 39 of its last 41 contests on The Farm spanning since 2015. The Cardinal has not lost at Taube since March 22, 2016, in a 4-3 setback against Pepperdine.

That's a good thing for Stanford, which will not play a road match until visiting Arizona State on March 30. The Cardinal is looking to get back on track after being ranked in the top-6 for the first month of the season.

Stanford quickly seized the doubles point for a 1-0 lead thanks to wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots.

Caroline Lampl made it 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 2 position.

Emily Arbuthnott followed with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court three before Janice Shin delivered her second clincher of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at the No. 4 spot.

UNLV (7-4) collected its only point when Aiwen Zhu outlasted Michaela Gordon 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 in a battle of ranked players at the No. 1 position.

Stanford can now shift its attention to Saturday's noon matchup against Florida (3-4). It's the latest chapter of the sport's best rivalry, which started to gain momentum eight years ago when the Cardinal defeated the Gators to capture the 2010 NCAA title. Since 2010, the powerhouses have hooked up 12 times overall, with the Cardinal winning seven. How dominant have these two programs been? Six of the last eight NCAA championships have been won by either Stanford or Florida.
