Klass Collects Award

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford junior Kat Klass was named MPSF/Kap7 Player of the Week when the conference announced its weekly honors on Tuesday afternoon.

Klass powered the top-ranked Cardinal to the 2018 Stanford Invitational championship with 10 goals in three games over the weekend. The junior saved her best for last, tying a career high with five goals in the final against No. 2 Cal, which Stanford won 11-9. Down one early, Klass scored a pair in the second quarter to push the Cardinal ahead 4-3, a lead it wouldn't relinquish. She rattled the cage three times in the third quarter as Stanford took control and went up three and also contributed two field blocks against the Bears as part of her four during the tournament.

Klass ripped in four goals in a 14-2 victory over No. 10 Long Beach State earlier in the day for a nine-score Sunday. On Saturday she scored in the final period of a 16-4 victory over No. 8 Pacific. Klass, who came in with four goals in Stanford's first four games, upped her goals per game average to 2.00 with her performances at the Stanford Invite. She's now ninth in the MPSF in that category.

It's the first conference player of the week award of Klass' career. She was a four-time MPSF/Kap7 Newcomer of the Week as a freshman in 2016.

No. 1 Stanford (7-0) is off for two weeks and will resume action at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational hosted by UC Irvine on Friday, Feb. 23.
