Prepping For Pepperdine

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 40 Stanford is scheduled to host No. 6 Pepperdine on Friday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

The Cardinal (4-3) could use a signature nonconference win, having dropped its only other matches against ranked opponents, both coming on the road against No. 2 Vanderbilt and No. 21 Texas.

However, Friday's match might be a casualty of this weekend's forecast, with rain expected in the Bay Area on Friday and Saturday. Pepperdine (6-1) visits California on Saturday, so it's possible tomorrow's match would be washed away completely. The Waves, who have been idle since falling 4-2 to North Carolina in the ITA National Team Indoor final on Feb. 12, have actually beaten the Cardinal in each of the last two seasons.

After this weekend, Stanford begins conference play with next Friday's Pac-12 opener against UCLA. The Cardinal, which is navigating through a nine-match homestand, has won 39 of its last 42 matches on The Farm dating back to 2015.

Emily Arbuthnott (14-6 overall, 4-1 duals) and Janice Shin (14-3 overall, 5-2 duals) continue to lead Stanford in victories, with Michaela Gordon (13-4 overall, 4-3 duals) representing the Cardinal's top-ranked singles player at No. 19.

Arbuthnott and Gordon (11-2 overall, 3-1 duals) remain the nation's top-ranked doubles team.
