Close Call

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 4 Stanford was edged by No. 2 Ohio State on Saturday evening at Maples Pavilion in the Cardinal's final meet of the regular season.

Stanford produced a 400.850, falling shy of Ohio State's 402.150. The Cardinal owned the early lead but was tripped on rings and unable to overtake the Buckeyes after the second rotation.

The Cardinal honored its senior class of Jacob Barrus, Drew Burton, Robert Neff and Ryan Sheppard in a ceremony prior to the meet. The quartet has helped lead Stanford to a pair of NCAA Championships runner-up finishes.

The Cardinal turned in its best performances on pommel horse (66.200), parallel bars (68.250) and high bar (67.650) while the Buckeyes came out ahead in floor (67.900), rings (66.850) and vault (69.550).

Leading through two events, Stanford posted a 63.200 on rings and was chasing Ohio State the rest of the way.

Neff (81.400) and Sheppard (79.850) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the all-around. Ohio State's Alec Yoder (84.100) captured the event crown.

Stanford claimed two event titles, with Neff earning a 14.700 on the high bar and Sheppard checking in with a 14.200 on vault.

Stanford concludes its season with the MPSF Championships on April 7 and the NCAA Championships on April 20-21.
