STANFORD, Calif. – The synchronized swimming team closed out the regular season Saturday by besting Arizona and Northern Arizona in the Western Regionals at the Avery Aquatic Center.
Â
As expected, the Cardinal swept all routines.
Â
"We are very happy with the swims," said head coach Sara Lowe. "The student-athletes were faced with a challenge leading up to the meet resulting in several switches and learning new routines. It didn't faze them and provided an extra spark."
Â
Clare McGovern won solo with a score of 83.1500, with Joanna Langer taking third at 72.0500. Stanford finished first and second in duet, behind the performances of Caitlin Klauer-Erica Slavin (81.3000) and Rachel Hyon-Jacklyn Luu (79.8500).
Â
The Cardinal also claimed trio and team. In the latter, Natalie Fletcher, Dylan Harding, Hyon, Klauer, Langner, Luu, McGovern and Slavin combined for a 78.6000.
In the technical competition, Stanford claimed the top four spots in A figures. Luu finished first (80.1027), followed by Klauer (78.3814), Slavin (78.3687) and Harding (76.8493).
Â
The Cardinal concludes its season on March 28-31 at the Collegiate National Championships in Oro Valley, Arizona.
Â
"Our routines looked solid," Lowe said. "We are excited to train harder and get even stronger the next two weeks."
