Rain Washes Out Pepperdine

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 40 Stanford's nonconference match against No. 6 Pepperdine on Friday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium was cancelled due to rain.

Stanford (4-3) was preparing to play its third contest of a nine-match homestand, which began last weekend. Pepperdine (6-1) was slated to face off against California in Berkeley on Saturday, so today's match is unlikely to be rescheduled.

The Cardinal was seeking a signature nonconference win, having dropped its only other matches against ranked opponents, both coming on the road against No. 2 Vanderbilt and No. 21 Texas.

Looking ahead to next weekend, Stanford begins conference play on Friday, March 9, against UCLA at 1:30 p.m. in the Pac-12 opener for both teams. The Cardinal, which is navigating through a nine-match homestand, has won 39 of its last 42 matches on The Farm dating back to 2015.

Emily Arbuthnott (14-6 overall, 4-1 duals) and Janice Shin (14-3 overall, 5-2 duals) continue to lead Stanford in victories, with Michaela Gordon (13-4 overall, 4-3 duals) representing the Cardinal's top-ranked singles player at No. 19.

Arbuthnott and Gordon (11-2 overall, 3-1 duals) remain the nation's top-ranked doubles team.
