Tuesday Tangle with Tigers

STANFORD, Calif. – No. 3 Stanford men's tennis returns to action with three matches this week. The Cardinal, which has been idle since March 11, will host Pacific on Tuesday and face USC and UCLA over the weekend.

Tuesday's match against the Tigers at Taube Family Tennis Stadium begins at 3 p.m. PT. A live stream of the action, with host Tim Swartz will be available at streamingtennis.com.

At 14-1 overall, Stanford is off to its best start in 16 seasons when the Cardinal opened the 2002 dual slate with an identical record. The Cardinal is 2-0 in Pac-12 play with wins over No. 20 Arizona State and Arizona on the road.

Stanford has faced just one Bay Area school so far this season, defeating No. 36 California (4-1) in a nonconference match on Feb. 24 in Berkeley, California.

The Cardinal is 8-0 all-time against Pacific. Stanford last faced the Tigers on March 23, 2016, where Stanford posted a 4-1 victory over Pacific in Stockton, California. The Tigers, who play in the West Coast Conference, are 4-12 on the season.

Senior Tom Fawcett leads the Cardinal with 17 wins on the season, while junior Sameer Kumar owns 16 victories. Fawcett is ranked No. 10 in singles in the latest Oracle/ITA tennis rankings. Kumar is ranked No. 71 nationally. Freshman Axel Geller, who is ranked No. 50 nationally, owns a 13-3 record.

The Cardinal's trip to UCLA and USC this Friday and Saturday, respectively, will be the second meeting with both schools this season. Stanford defeated the Bruins (4-3) and the Trojans (6-1) in nonconference matches as part of the Dick Gould Stanford/SoCal Challenge at the beginning of February.
