Preliminary Success

ORO VALLEY, Az. – It was a good start for the Stanford synchronized swimming team on Thursday at the U.S. Collegiate Championships.

The Cardinal placed first in three preliminary routines. Clare McGovern finished first in solo, Erica Slavin and Caitlin Klauer paced duet, with Jacklyn Luu and Rachael Hyon claiming third, and McGovern, Slavin and Klauer led the way in trio.

"The athletes had solid swims and we are very happy with their performances," head coach Sara Lowe said. "Each routine had some small errors, so we have room for improvement. I am very excited to see their swims on Saturday."

On Friday, draws will be announced for solo, duet and trio finals for Saturday, followed by preliminary team competition and the final routine draw.

All finals will be contested Saturday at the Oro Valley Aquatic Center, starting with trio at 7:50 a.m. PT. Duet follows at 9:05 a.m., solo at 10:55 a.m. and team at 12:50 p.m.
