Too Much Firepower

TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 28 Stanford powered its way to a seventh straight win and third consecutive shutout, blanking Arizona 5-0 on Saturday to sweep its desert road trip.

Stanford (11-3, 5-0 Pac-12) quickly dispatched of Arizona (9-10, 0-5 Pac-12), securing the doubles point before racking up four convincing singles victories, the final two of which finished simultaneously.

The Cardinal, which has not lost since Feb. 24, continued its dominance in Pac-12 play by recording its third shutout against conference competition.

For the second straight day, Stanford captured the doubles point on the strength of wins at Nos. 2 and 3.

Stanford increased its lead to 2-0 after Emma Higuchi delivered a 6-0, 6-0 triumph on court six.

Competing in her third match since returning from injury, Melissa Lord contributed a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot. 

The clincher came from Emily Arbuthnott, who won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot. During the clincher, Michaela Gordon had match point in progress and coasted to a 6-2, 6-1 win at the top spot of the lineup.

Stanford returns to action on Sunday, April 8, hosting Oregon as the Pac-12 regular season winds down.
