Cook Qualifies

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Senior Kassidy Cook and sophomore Haley Farnsworth each qualified for the NCAA Championships on the 1-meter and 3-meter at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships this week.

At Northern Arizona's Wall Aquatic Center, Cook punched her ticket to the NCAA meet on the first day of the Zone Championships. She was second during the preliminary round on the 1-meter with a score of 308.05, and then finished fourth in the finals with a total of 590.85. The following day, she qualified on the 3-meter with a score of 665.95 to place third among the 57 divers.

Sophomore Haley Farnsworth was missed out on a trip to the NCAA Championships by one spot on two different occasions. The top nine finishers qualified on the 1-meter and 3-meter, but Farnsworth finished 10th in both events. Her score of 561.40 on the 1-meter was just 1.05 points behind the ninth-place qualifying spot, and her score of 613.50 on the 3-meter was just three points shy of the final spot. She also finished 20th on the platform (202.65).

Farnsworth earned her spot at the NCAA's when one of the divers was scratched from the NCAA meet on the 3-meter. Farnsworth moved up into qualifying position on that board, which means she will also compete on the 1-meter at the national championship meet with her B-cut effort on that board.

Mia Paulsen reached the finals on each of the springboards. She finished 16th on the 1-meter (520.20) and 17th on the 3-meter (567.85).  The freshman was also 32nd on the platform (179.80).

Freshman Abby Gardner finished 42nd on the 1-meter with a score of 220.80, then placed 48th on the 3-meter at 220.30.

Cook, a four-time All-American, will join the Stanford swimmers at the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio, March 14-17. Cook scored on the 1-meter (eighth) and 3-meter (third) last year as Stanford claimed its first national title since 1998. The Cardinal is in search of back-to-back NCAA titles for the first time since winning five straight from 1992-96.
