STANFORD, Calif. - No. 14 Stanford climbed out of an 0-2 deficit to hand visiting San Jose State a 3-2 setback Wednesday at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium.
No. 4 Luiza Andrade and Thaliana Grajeda got the Spartans (3-3) on the board with a 21-19, 15-21, 15-12 win over Caitlin Keefe and Catherine Raquel, and coupled with No. 5 Kat Anderson and Payton Chang's setback, Stanford (5-4) found itself in an 0-2 hole.
Then the Cardinal got rolling.
No. 2 Morgan Hentz and Amelia Smith, the reigning Pac-12 Beach Pair of the Week, kept their winning streak alive with a 21-11, 21-12 cleanup of Ciara Reistad and Julia Golbeck.
No. 3 Kate Formico and Courtney Bowen took care of business by turning away Hayley Sturgeon and Jamie Hirai, 21-10, 21-14.
Knotted at 2-2, all eyes shifted to No. 1 Kathryn Plummer and Sunny Villapando, as the pair battled Lyndi Scholl and Nandyala Gama for the deciding point. Plummer and Villapando came through with a convincing 21-15, 21-14 triumph.
Blake Sharp and Shannon Richardson won their exhibition match against LauraParts and Kaitlynn Zdroik, 14-21, 21-13, 15-8.
The Cardinal gets back to action when it plays host to the Stanford Invitational (March 9-10).
