Liu Takes Fifth

NAPA, Calif. – Freshman Mika Liu claimed fifth place Tuesday to lead the Stanford women's golf team at the Silverado Showdown. Liu's 3-under-par for the 54-hole event at the par-72 Silverado Resort and Spa was achieved with respective rounds of 68-70-75.
 
It was the seventh straight top-20 finish for Liu.
 
Liu was joined in the top 20 by teammates Andrea Lee (11th) and Albane Valenzuela (t-19th), as the Cardinal (294-281-295) finished tied for third among the 17-team field.
 
Stanford was 6-over for the event, matching Arizona and UCLA to share the third spot. USC won the event at 5-under while the Trojans' Jennifer Chang (-8) topped the podium.
 
Lee's even-par showing at the tournament was capped off with an eagle on the par-5 18th, and Valenzuela fashioned three birdies during her final round.
 
Ziyi Wang (76-72-74) tied for 34th at 6-over. Shannon Aubert (84-79-74) and Kelsey Zeng (77-81-79) tied for 82nd at 21-over.
 
Stanford will have a couple of weeks to regroup, shifting its focus to the Pac-12 Conference Championships (April 22-24) contested in Seattle, Washington.
