Four Nab MPSF Honors

STANFORD, Calif. – Led by first-team selection Jaylen Jasper, four Cardinal were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation all-conference teams, the organization announced today.

Joining Jasper with all-conference recognition are seniors Evan Enriques (second team) and Kevin Rakestraw (second team) and freshman Kyler Presho (honorable mention). Jasper and Presho were also named to the seven-member All-MPSF Freshman Team.

Jasper, an opposite from Annapolis, Maryland, led the MPSF and was fifth nationally with 3.99 kills per set during the regular season. The freshman was second in points per set (4.40) and also ranked in the top 15 in aces per set (0.27). He's registered double-digit kills in 18 of 25 matches and reached the 20-kill plateau six times. He earned MPSF, VolleyMob and AVCA Player of the Week honors for his efforts against Grand Canyon (March 29) and Concordia (March 31), which included matching his career high with 27 kills against the Lopes.

Enriques, who hails from Punalu'u, Hawai'i, collects his third career All-MPSF honor as he was an honorable mention pick last season and a second-team selection in 2016. He ranks second in the MPSF with 2.22 digs per set and had tallied double-digit digs on eight occasions. The senior twice had a season-best 15 digs – vs. Princeton (Jan. 5) and at then-No. 1 Ohio State (Jan. 12). He was voted the MPSF Defensive Player of the Week on Jan. 15 after averaging 3.14 digs per set on the road against Ohio State and Ball State.

Rakestraw, a redshirt senior from Newport Beach, California, is also a three-time all-conference honoree. A repeat second-team member, he earned honorable mention in 2016. The middle blocker is seventh in the MPSF and 10th nationally with a .389 attack percentage. He was second on the team in total kills (188) and blocks (51). His .800 (8-0-10) attack percentage against CSUN on Jan. 17 was the highest output by a Cardinal player this season.

Presho, a middle blocker out of San Clemente, California, was fifth in the MPSF with a .416 hitting percentage. He led Stanford with 61 blocks, including a career-best seven against Grand Canyon on March 29. The MPSF Defensive Player of the Week on April 2, the freshman is the only Cardinal player to start all 25 matches at the same position this season.

Pepperdine outside hitter David Wieczorek was named the MPSF Player of the Year, while BYU opposite Gabi Garcia Fernandez took home Freshman of the Year honors.

No. 7 seed Stanford travels to No. 2 seed UCLA for the first round of the MPSF Tournament on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Pauley Pavilion.
