MALIBU, Calif. – Stanford closed out the regular season with a straight set loss at No. 4 Pepperdine, Saturday, at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Stanford (6-19, 3-9 MPSF) will be the No. 7 seed in the MPSF Tournament and will travel to No. 2 seed UCLA on Saturday, April 14.
Pepperdine (15-7, 8-4 MPSF) hit .500 for the match – tied for the second-highest by a Cardinal opponent this season. The Waves also recorded 10.0 blocks and kept Stanford off-balance all night with its serving.
Freshman opposite Jaylen Jasper led Stanford with 13 kills, five digs, two blocks and an ace. No other Cardinal player had more than five kills in the match.
Sophomore setter Paul Bischoff finished with 26 assists and was a perfect 5-0-5 offensively. The Wheaton, Illinois native also had four digs and an ace. Senior libero Evan Enriques collected a match-best nine digs.
Pepperdine, which led the second set wire-to-wire, was led in the match by David Wieczorek, who paces the MPSF in kills and points. The redshirt junior finished with 15 kills on .619 hitting and three aces. Senior outside hitter Colby Harriman added 13 kills on a .600 attack percentage and seven blocks.
Stanford freshman outside hitter Leo Henken also tallied five kills on .300 hitting, while junior outside hitter Jordan Ewert was held to four kills and a -.167 attack percentage.
Freshman middle blocker Kyler Presho had three kills and four blocks in two sets played. Redshirt freshman Cole Paullin and sophomore Stephen Moye split time at middle in the third set.
