STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men's rowing travels to West Windsor, New Jersey this week to compete in the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships, to be held June 1-3 at Richard J. Coffee Mercer County Park.

The Cardinal will be one of 24 programs in the IRA field, which is comprised of 17 automatic qualifiers and seven at-large berths. Stanford will enter a varsity eight and second varsity eight boat into the championship regatta.

"Our training for IRAs has been solid," said head coach Craig Amerkhanian. "There has been a lot of attention to detail in preparing to execute our race plan well."

Stanford's varsity eight begins the competition for the Cardinal with its preliminary race in Heat 2, which takes place at 5:10 a.m. PT Friday morning. The Cardinal will line up against Yale, Northeastern, George Washington, Oregon State and UC San Diego. The top two boats in each of the four heats will advance to Saturday's semifinals. All other boats will race in the Repchage, which is scheduled for 10:30 and 10:40 a.m on Friday. The varsity eight Grand Final is scheduled for Sunday morning at 9:05 a.m.

The second varsity eight will race in Heat 4 on Friday morning alongside Yale, Brown, Boston, St. Joseph's and Bates College. The race will begin at 6:30 a.m., with the top two boats of each heat advancing to Saturday's semifinals. Like the varsity eight competition, the remaining boats will compete in the Repechage later that day for another chance to earn a spot in the semifinals. The second varsity eight Grand Final is slated for 8 a.m. on Sunday morning.

"Excitement is growing as we continue to prepare for Friday's heats and beyond," added Amerkhanian.
