McCaffrey Tabbed to Ballot

STANFORD, Calif. - Former Stanford wide receiver Ed McCaffrey has been named to the ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, as announced Monday by the National Football Foundation.

The two-time team MVP earned first team All-America and All-Pac-10 Conference honors as a senior in 1990 after catching 61 passes for 917 yards and eight touchdowns. McCaffrey ranks in the top 10 all-time at Stanford with 146 career receptions and 2,333 career receiving yards. He led the Cardinal in receiving yards in three of his four years on The Farm, and set the school record for career 100-yard receiving games with eight.

McCaffrey also was an Academic All-America first team selection in 1990.

McCaffrey went on to enjoy a 13-year NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants, and Denver Broncos, winning three Super Bowl rings (1995, 1998, 1999) with the 49ers and Broncos. He also earned a spot in the 1988 Pro Bowl, and finished his professional career with 565 career receptions for 7,422 yards and 55 touchdowns.

In 2008, McCaffrey was inducted into Stanford's Hall of Fame.

McCaffrey's wife, Lisa, lettered in soccer at Stanford from 1987-89. His son, Christian, played for the Cardinal football team from 2014-16, and was the 2015 Associated Press Player of the Year. Christian was selected eighth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers.

The list of nominees includes 76 players and six coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 100 players and 32 coaches from the divisional ranks.

The announcement of the 2019 class will be made Jan. 7, 2019, in Santa Clara, California.

The 2019 class will officially be inducted during the National Football Foundation awards dinner on Dec. 10, 2019, at the New York Hilton Midtown. The inductees will be permanently enshrined at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta later that December and honored on the field during the 15th annual National Hall of Fame Salute during the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. They will also be honored at their respective schools at a National Football Foundation Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute during the 2019 season.
