Mupo Added to Lacrosse Staff

STANFORD, Calif. – A two-time national champion at Northwestern and assistant coach for the No. 1 team in the nation last season, Kara Mupo, will join the Stanford women's lacrosse coaching staff as the offensive coordinator in 2018, as announced by head coach Amy Bokker on Friday. 

"I want to thank Stanford University for the opportunity to be a part of the Cardinal family," Mupo said. "I could not be more honored to have the chance to work with student-athletes who hold themselves to the highest academic and athletic standards, both during their time at Stanford and beyond. 

"I am extremely excited to work with the Stanford Athletics department and the women's lacrosse staff to develop our student athletes as we pursue Pac-12 championships, as well as national championships. I also want to thank Stony Brook University for my most recent experiences with their women's lacrosse program, and their athletic department as a whole."

She is a great communicator with outstanding offensive creativity, and combined with her strong energy and passion for the game, I know she can take our offense to the next level."

Mupo spent two years as an assistant at William & Mary and also served as an assistant at Stony Brook where she helped the SeaWolves to a 20-win season and a No. 1 national ranking in 2018. Under Mupo, she Stony Brook offense led the country in points per game (29.28), scoring margin (+10.80), assists per game (11.23) and shot percentage (.547) last season.

A native of Rocky Point, N.Y., and a graduate of Rocky Point High School, Mupo spent her collegiate career at Northwestern in which she helped the Wildcats capture a pair of NCAA national championships and guided the team to four consecutive Final Four appearances. Mupo served as a team captain at Northwestern during her senior season and finished her collegiate career with 186 points (136g, 50a).

A former member of the U.S. Women's National Team, Mupo plays professionally in the Women's Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL) for the New England Command, who kicked off their inaugural season this summer. In 2016, she was a member of the Philadelphia Force and earned all-star status after she lead the league in goals.

Mupo now plays in the WPLL (Women's Professional Lacrosse League), for the New England Command, who kicked off their inaugural season this summer. She also was fortunate enough to win the first WPLL Championship with the New England Command and lead the league in goals

Mupo earned a bachelor of science degree in human development and psychological services from Northwestern in 2014, and received a master's degree in sports administration at Northwestern in 2015.

Mupo will take over an offense that led the Pac-12 in goals, assists, points, shots and draw controls. The Cardinal finished the 2018 season with the second-most wins (15-5) in school history which included an 8-2 record in the inaugural Pac-12 regular season, and the first-ever Pac-12 Tournament title. The Cardinal capped the year with its seventh NCAA appearance in the last nine seasons.
