Card Fends Off ‘Cats

 STANFORD, Calif. – Three Cardinal tallied double-digit kills as the No. 2 Stanford women's volleyball team defeated Arizona, 3-1, Sunday at Maples Pavilion.
 
Stanford improved to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in the Pac-12, while Arizona dropped to 12-2, 1-1 in the conference. The Cardinal hit .246 as a team and held the Wildcats to a .147 clip. Both team finished with 12.0 blocks, while Stanford held a 50-43 advantage in digs. Stanford has now won 23 straight matches at Maples Pavilion.
 
For the third time this season, junior outside hitter Kathryn Plummer surpassed the 20-kill mark, registering a match-high 21. The reigning two-time Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week also tied her season-high with four blocks and had three digs.  
 
The Cardinal started out slow, posting just nine kills in both the first and second sets. Stanford had 10 hitting errors in the second, and struggled with its passing as Arizona registered four aces in the set. The Cardinal amped up its offense in the third with 16 kills on .297 hitting and was at its best in the fourth with 20 kills on a .457 attack percentage.
 


Junior libero Morgan Hentz, the reigning two-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week, racked up 20 digs. She now has 1,298 for her career, surpassing Kerri Walsh for seventh on the Cardinal's all-time digs list.
 
Junior setter Jenna Gray handed out 44 assists to go with a season-high five blocks, five digs, two aces and two kills. Sophomore outside hitter Meghan McClure turned in her third double-double of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs. Junior opposite Audriana Fitzmorris chipped in with 10 kills on .304 hitting.
 


Stanford middle blockers Tami Alade and Holly Campbell combined for 11 kills and were in on 11 of the team's 12 blocks. Sophomore defensive specialist Kate Formico finished with nine digs and matched her career-high with two aces.
 


Arizona was led by senior outside hitter Kendra Dahlke's 15 kills, but the Cardinal held her to a .022 attack percentage. Sophomore Paige Whipple totaled 10 kills for the Wildcats, while Devyn Cross had eight kills and seven blocks.
 
Stanford remains on The Farm next week to play host to No. 17 UCLA on Wednesday and No. 14 USC on Friday.
