STANFORD, Calif. - In the second of a nine-part series, Cardinal fans get to know freestyle and butterfly specialist Amalie Fackenthal from Carmichael, California.
What are you most looking forward to about Stanford?
Amalie: I am most looking forward to being part of a close group of girls who motivate each other to be better every day! I think having a second family like this is something you get once in your life but it lasts forever.
Favorite swimming moment so far?
Amalie: My favorite swimming moment was during our first Power group workout! I got to really focus on my stroke and make improvements that I am excited to work on. I've never trained in a true sprint environment so it is exciting to be able to swim workouts made for our specialties.
Best part about being a swimmer?
Amalie: The best part of being a swimmer for me is the internal growth and strength that swimming develops from a young age. I really value the skills that swimming has taught me, such as time management, the importance of hard work, and how to keep an open mindset.
Biggest passion outside of swimming?
Amalie: My biggest passions outside of swimming are cooking/eating and scuba diving.
Favorite Netflix series right now?
Amalie: Brooklyn 99 (*hulu).
Name three things on your bucket list.
Amalie: Scuba dive in the Maldives, go skydiving, and contribute to helping the environment.
What are your career aspirations after Stanford/swimming?
Amalie: I would love to be a Dermatologist or to go in to the medical field in that general area.
