Johnson Joins Cardinal

STANFORD, Calif. Brandon Johnson has been named an assistant coach with the Stanford men's and women's water polo programs. 
 
A well-known coach at both the collegiate and high school ranks, Johnson joined the Cardinal this fall after two seasons as the head coach at Menlo-Atherton High School. A Palo Alto native, he has also served as the head varsity boys water polo coach at Palo Alto High School and St. Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco. 
 
Johnson also served as the Athletic Director and a physical education teacher at Hoover Middle School in San Francisco the past three years. 
 
He has been heavily involved with water polo as the Executive Director of MidPen Water Polo Club in Menlo Park from 2015 to 2018 and has served as the Stanford Water Polo Club Boys 18U head coach since 2012.  
 
Johnson's entrance into coaching came at his alma mater, UC Irvine. He served as an assistant coach for the Anteaters for the 2011 season, after graduating in June of 2011. 
 
A 2011 graduate of UC Irvine with a bachelor's degree in Criminology, Law and Society, Johnson was a three-time All-American for the Anteaters. He finished his standout career at UC Irvine with 196 career goals. Johnson, a three-time All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honoree, was the recipient of the University's Academic Achievement Award from the UCI Admissions Office and was voted the UC Irvine Athlete of the Year as a senior.  
 
He also played five years with the United States Senior National Team from 2008-13. 
 
Johnson went on to earn a master's degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University in Irvine in 2015.
