Fall Season Underway

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 1 Stanford opens its fall season on Tuesday, Oct. 2 with an appearance at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California.

The Cardinal boasts six nationally-ranked singles players and two doubles teams.

Qualifying begins on Oct. 2, with Emma Higuchi, Caroline Lampl and Janice Shin participating in singles. Ranked No. 63, Higuchi finished 29-6 overall last season and was unbeaten in 14 duals at the No. 6 spot. Ranked No. 47, Lampl went 21-7 overall as a junior and is Stanford's winningest active player with 76 victories. Ranked No. 56, Shin went 25-4 overall last year and was 16-3 in duals.

Meanwhile, Emily Arbuthnott, Michaela Gordon and Melissa Lord will be featured in main draw competition starting Oct. 4. Ranked No. 24, Arbuthnott produced a 29-9 record and led the Cardinal with eight clinchers. Stanford's highest-ranked player at No. 10, Gordon finished 22-11 last year and played all of her matches at the top spot of the lineup. Ranked No. 13, Lord went 19-5 overall and remained unbeaten in 15 NCAA team matches, providing the clincher in the NCAA title match against Vanderbilt.

The Cardinal will be represented in the doubles main draw with the pairings of Arbuthnott/Gordon and Lampl/Kimberly Yee.

Later in the week, Stanford will send a split squad contingent to the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational, which runs Oct. 5-7 in Moraga, Calif.
