Stanford Blasts Bruins

STANFORD, Calif. – A career night for freshman Holly Campbell sparked No. 2 Stanford in a 3-0 win over No. 18 UCLA, Wednesday, at Maples Pavilion.
 
Campbell turned in a career-high 14 kills on .400 hitting to go with six blocks in her first collegiate match against the Bruins (6-4, 1-2 Pac-12). The middle blocker was one of three Cardinal (11-1, 3-0 Pac-12) to register double-digit kills.
 
As a team, Stanford hit .316 and held UCLA to a .121 clip. The Cardinal racked up 10.0 blocks and 49 digs, paced by junior libero Mogan Hentz who finished with a match-high 18. Stanford has now won three straight against UCLA and extended its home winning streak to 24 matches.
 
Junior outside hitter Kathryn Plummer led all players with 17 kills and was one dig shy of a double-double. Sophomore outside hitter Megahn McClure chipped in with 12 kills on .435 hitting, seven digs and three blocks.
 


The opening set was close to start as there were six tie scores, but the Cardinal closed out on a 9-2 run. Stanford finished with 21 kills on a .378 attack percentage in the opening set.
 
Junior setter Jenna Gray totaled 49 assists in the match to go with seven digs, a kill and a block. Sophomore defensive specialist Sidney Wilson had the team's only ace of the night.
 
The Cardinal struggled a bit in the second with a .186 team hitting percentage, but held the Bruins to a -.024 attack percentage and just eight kills. Stanford ramped up its offense in the final frame, hitting a match-best .405.
 
Senior middle blocker Tami Alade recorded six kills on .308 hitting, and added four blocks and two digs, while opposite Audriana Fitzmorris finished with five kills and four blocks. Sophomore defensive specialist Kate Formico tallied six digs for the Cardinal.
 


UCLA was led by sophomore Mac May, who had a team-high nine kills. Madeline Gates added seven kills and three blocks, while libero Savvy Simo finished with 13 digs.
 
Up next, Stanford takes on No. 13 USC on Friday at Maples Pavilion. First serve is slated for 8 p.m. on ESPN2.
