Block Party

STANFORD, Calif. – Kathryn Plummer tallied 18 kills, while Morgan Hentz had 18 digs to lead No. 2 Stanford to a 3-0 win over No. 13 USC, Friday, at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (12-1, 4-0 Pac-12) hit .396 as a team and held USC (10-4, 2-1 Pac-12) to a .158 clip, thanks in large part to 13.0 team blocks by the Cardinal. It was the third-most blocks in a match this season for Stanford, and the second-best output in a sweep.

Plummer, a junior outside hitter, hit .379 in the match and finished one dig away from a double-double. Hentz tallied 18 digs for the second straight match to move into fifth on Stanford's career digs list with 1,334.

Sophomore Meghan McClure was almost flawless offensively against the Trojans. The outside hitter recorded 14 kills on 21 swings with just one error to hit a season-high .619. She also had four blocks, tying her season-best.

Stanford extended its nation-best home winning streak to 25 matches. The Cardinal has now won five straight against the Trojans.

Junior setter Jenna Gray dished out 44 assists as she spread around the Cardinal offense. Junior opposite Audriana Fitzmorris finished with eight kills and season-high seven blocks. Senior middle blocker Tami Alade added five kills on .364 hitting and six blocks, while freshman Holly Campbell registered four kills and seven blocks.

Three USC players, Emily Baptista, Brooke Botkin and Khalia Lanier, notched nine kills to lead the Trojans. Libero Victoria Garrick had a team-high 12 digs.

Stanford will travel to No. 25 Utah on Oct. 5 and No. 23 Colorado on Oct. 7. Both matches will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
