STANFORD, Calif. – Kathryn Plummer and Audriana Fitzmorris combined for 26 kills as No. 4 Stanford swept No. 5 Penn State, Friday, in front of more than 3,600 fans at Maples Pavilion.
Stanford (5-1) handed the Nittany Lions (5-1) their first loss of the season and snapped a two-match skid against Penn State. The Nittany Lions entered the match having not lost a set in 2018.
Plummer finished with a match-high 15 kills on .382 hitting to go with six digs and three blocks. Fitzmorris hit .360 from the right, totaling 11 kills and three blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Meghan McClure added seven kills, five digs and three blocks.
As a team, Stanford hit .294, while holding Penn State to a season-low .193. The Cardinal collected 12.0 blocks and finished with two aces.
Junior Jenna Gray dished out 40 assists. The setter also tallied three kills on five errorless swings and had six digs and three blocks. Junior libero Morgan Hentz racked up a team-high 16 digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Kate Formico finished with seven.

Freshman middle blocker Holly Campbell was a force at the net, posting a career-high eight blocks to go with seven kills. Senior middle blocker Tami Alade hit .375 and had six kills, including one on match-point, and three blocks.

Penn State was led by redshirt senior Nia Reed's 14 kills on .367 hitting, while Taylor Leath pitched in with 10 kills and nine digs. Junior libero Kendall White had a match-high 19 digs.
Up next, Stanford will face No. 1 Minnesota on Sunday. The Golden Gophers were upset by No. 18 Oregon in Friday's first match at Maples Pavilion. First serve is slated for noon on Pac-12 Network.
