Stanford Selected Second

SAN FRANCISCO – Stanford was picked to finish second in the Pac-12 when the conference announced the results of the preseason coaches' poll on Wednesday morning at the league's annual Media Day in San Francisco.
 
The Cardinal totaled 107 points and one first-place vote. Oregon was the leading vote getter, receiving 11 first-place votes and collecting 121 points. Oregon State was third (104 points), Cal fourth (82 points) and Arizona State (79 points) fifth while UCLA (74 points) closed out the top half of the poll in sixth.
 
It's the fourth consecutive season Stanford has come in second in the preseason poll. The Cardinal had topped the rankings for 15 consecutive years beginning in 2000-01.
 
Stanford returns 12 letterwinners to a team that went 24-11 and advanced to its 11th consecutive Sweet 16 in 2017-18.
 
USC (66 points), Utah (50 points), Colorado (44 points), Arizona (28 points), Washington State (19 points) and Washington (18 points) rounded out the rest of the poll.
 
The Cardinal opens its regular season with four straight at home, finishing with a Sunday, Nov. 18 date against Ohio State at 1 p.m. PT. Stanford also hosts Baylor on Dec. 15 at noon PT and will travel to Tennessee on Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.
 
Sixteen of the Cardinal's 18 conference games will be carried on television, including a Sunday, Feb. 10 game against Oregon at 1 p.m. PT on ESPN2.
