Two Academic Honorees

STANFORD, Calif. -  Fifth-year senior center Jesse Burkett, a double major in Japanese and symbolic systems, and junior kicker Jet Toner, a science, technology and society major, earned Google Cloud Academic All-District honors on Thursday, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Burkett and Toner advance to the Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December. The All-District nominees must be significant contributors on the field and maintain at least a 3.20 grade point average. 

Burkett was second-team Academic All-America last season and has maintained a 3.49 GPA with his double major. On the field, the St. Augustine, Fla., product has started 36 games as a Cardinal and was an All-Pac-12 selection last season, and William V. Campbell Trophy semifinalist this season. 

Toner leads the Pac-12 and is sixth in the nation in field goal percentage (.900). The Honolulu, Hawaii, native holds the school record with 79 consecutive made PATs to start a career and has a 3.56 GPA.  

Burkett, Toner and the Cardinal are preparing for the 121st Big Game. Stanford and Cal clash in Berkeley on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks.
