STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford women's lacrosse is set to host the U.S. women's national team and U19 teams for the US Lacrosse Spring Premiere. The six-team event will be held at Stanford from Jan. 25-27.
The event will also feature the English National Team, the Japanese developmental team, Fresno State University as well as the defending Pac-12 tournament champion Stanford Cardinal.
"We are extremely excited to welcome the national team to Stanford," said Stanford head coach Amy Bokker. "This is a tremendous opportunity for our team, community and West Coast lacrosse. We are excited to compete against the very best in the world and help them get ready as they prepare for their next World Cup."
The U.S. women's senior team is the defending Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) world champion, having won the most recent championship in 2017. U.S. team head coach Jenny Levy is building towards the 2021 FIL World Championship, which will be hosted by US Lacrosse at Towson in 2021.
The U.S. women's U19 team is in training for the 2019 FIL Women's U19 World Championship, which will be held this coming August in Canada.
Bokker has extensive coaching experience at the national level. After joining the U.S. national team as an assistant in 2010, Bokker helped coach the U.S. to its seventh world title as the Americans outscored opponents by a combined 127-34 over seven games in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. In 2013, Bokker, who served as the defensive coordinator, and current Stanford assistant Kristen Carr, who was a defender, helped lead the U.S. to the FIL Women's World Cup title.
Bokker also assisted the Canadian national team in the 2009 FIL World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic, where it captured the bronze medal, the first medal the country had won in 28 years.
