Big Win in Burnham

STANFORD, Calif. – Setter Paul Bischoff directed No. 11 Stanford to a 25-22, 24-26, 25-20, 25-21 win over No. 7 Ohio State, Saturday, in Burnham Pavilion.
 
Stanford improved to 4-0 on the young season, outhitting Ohio State (2-2) .360 to .311. The Cardinal utilized its defense to spark runs and keep the Buckeyes at bay. For the match, Stanford held an 8.0-5.5 advantage in blocks and out dug Ohio State, 24-18 Ohio State doubled up the Cardinal in service errors, 26-13.
 
Bischoff finished one dig shy of a double-double as he controlled the offense with 37 assists. The junior finished with a match-high nine digs and totaled four blocks, two kills and an ace.
 


Sophomore opposite Jaylen Jasper had a season-best 16 kills on .323 hitting, while senior outside hitter Jordan Ewert also had a season-high with 13 kills on 21 swings with just one error to hit .571. Ewert also turned in six digs.
 


Junior middle blocker Stephen Moye matched his career-high with eight kills on a .417 attack percentage. His serving late in the opening set helped spark a Cardinal run that broke a 19-19 tie and gave Stanford the 25-22 victory. As a team, Stanford hit .609 in the first set, committing just one hitting error.
 
Sophomore middle blocker Kyler Presho registered a match-high five blocks to go with two aces. Junior outside hitter Eric Beatty added five kills, three digs and an ace, while senior libero Kyle Dagostino finished with five assists and three digs.
 
Ohio State opposite Jake Hanes paced the Buckeyes with a match-best 24 kills on .452 hitting. Sophomore outside hitter Martin Lallemand chipped in with 10 kills on a .529 attack percentage.
 
Stanford remains on The Farm next week, hosting No. 3 UC Irvine for a pair of match on Thursday and Saturday in Maples Pavilion.
