Broncos Beaten in Burlingame

BURLINGAME, Calif. – No. 10 Stanford didn't let the heavy rain that has swept through the Bay Area slow the Cardinal down, as it cruised to a 5-0 victory over Santa Clara Tuesday night at the indoor courts of the Broadway Tennis Center in Burlingame.
 
Stanford secured the doubles point, winning all three matches. Sophomore Axel Geller and freshman Alexandre Rotsaert moved to 2-0 in dual action with a victory at No. 1. Senior Sameer Kumar and sophomore Timothy Sah did the same, posting a 6-2 win at No. 2. Jack Barber made his dual match debut in doubles, teaming with Michael Genender for a 6-3 win at No. 3.
 
Geller battled back from a long first set defeat (6-7 [3]) to Santa Clara's Jesus Tapiador Barajas, to earn a 6-2 win in the second and secured the match victory with a 6-4 third-set triumph. Rotsaert and William Genesen post straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively. Barber closed the evening match with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 win at No. 6.
 
The final two singles matches were abandoned, with Stanford posting the 5-0 win.
 
Stanford improved to 12-0 all-time against Santa Clara.
 
Several members of the Cardinal will compete this weekend at the Sherwood Cup in Thousand Oaks, before ITA Kick-Off Weekend begins with UCF on The Farm on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.No. 10 Stanford 5, Santa Clara 0
