STANFORD, Calif. - In the latest chapter of what is becoming an extremely competitive rivalry, No. 6 Stanford knocked off No. 4 Yale 7-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center.
Stanford (6-4) showcased its superior depth, securing victories at the bottom six spots of the lineup. However, the match was much closer than the final score indicated, with six of the nine contests requiring five sets to complete and the entire competition lasting just over three hours.
Saturday's match represented a reunion between Cardinal head coach Mark Talbott and older brother, Dave, who coaches Yale. Since the 2010-11 campaign, the Bulldogs have won 10 of 13 overall in the series but the Cardinal has now won three of last four meetings.
The Cardinal was in command the entire way, clinching the match when Caroline Neave defeated Aishwarya Bhattacharya 12-10, 11-4, 11-6 at the No. 4 spot.
Seniors Caroline Kimmel, Anna Marie Manning, Grayson Melby, Lucy Rowe and Tara Shannon were honored in their final home match.
The Cardinal remains idle until the CSA National Championships, which are scheduled for Feb. 22-24 in Hartford, Connecticut.
