STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Ella Eastin, who set three pool records in a victory over arch rival Cal last weekend, was named the Pac-12 Women's Swimmer of the Week by the conference office on Wednesday.
Eastin, who also won the award on Feb. 6 after setting three pool records in her last two home meets, is the conference's first swimmer to win two weekly awards in the same season. This is the first year the conference has awarded weekly winners, previously recognizing monthly honorees.
Eastin garnered the recognition with a trio of pool records at Spieker Aquatics Center in Berkeley, and in a battle of Pac-12 unbeatens, she led Stanford to a 192-107 victory over the sixth-ranked Bears. With the victory, Eastin and senior teammates Leah Stevens and Kim Williams finished their dual meets careers with an unblemished 30-0 career record.
She earned her first pool record of the day with a finish of 1:52.13 in the in the 200-yard butterfly -- that topped a 12-year-old mark held by Elaine Breeden. She then finished the 200 backstroke in 1:52.01 to top the standard set by Amy Bilquist in 2016, and capped the day with the fastest 200 individual medley in the facility's history at 1:53.86.
Eastin and the Cardinal now move on to the postseason. The Pac-12 Conference Championships are set for Feb. 27-March 2 in Federal Way, Wash., and the NCAA Championships will be March 20-23 in Austin, Texas.
