NEW ORLEANS, La./SAN FRANCISCO - Stanford sailing picked up where it left off. After a successful Fall, the Cardinal began the Spring with a victory at the Bryson Women's and a runner-up finish at the Nelson Roltsch Team Race over the weekend.

Stanford hosted the Bryson Women's on the San Francisco Bay and topped the field with a score of 114. Cal Poly was a distant runner-up at 196. Dealing with some cold, windy and sometimes rainy conditions, the Cardinal posted the best score in both the A and B divisions. Skipper Stephanie Houck and crew Ashton Borcherding won 13 of 18 races in the A division and totaled just 34 points, including just 24 points in the last 17 races. USC had the next-best duo in the top division with 61 points. Meanwhile, in the B division, freshman skipper Camille White and senior crew Cassie Obel were third overall among all divisions with 80 points.

In Louisiana, Stanford went 12-2 in the team race format and suffered its only two defeats to College of Charlston, which finished a perfect 14-0. Stanford was led by skipper John Kirkpatrick and crew Laurel Foster, skipper Wiley Rogers and crew Victoria Thompson, and skipper Telis Athanasopoulos Yogo and crew Mathew Hogan. They combined to go 12-0 against Jacksonville, Santa Barbara, TAMU-Gavelston, Tulane, Texas and Miami (OH).

Next up for the Cardinal is the McIntyre Team Race in Redwood City and the Charleston Women's in South Carolina.
