Men's Gymnastics

Clean Sweep

STANFORD, Calif. - Freshman Brody Malone captured a clean sweep of the available men's gymnastics weekly honors on Tuesday, taking home MPSF Gymnast of the Week, College Gymnastics Association Gymnast of the Week, and College Gymnastics Association Rookie of the Week. The sweep of the weekly awards is the first for Stanford in program history.

After becoming the first freshman in five years to be named MPSF Gymnast of the Week last week, Malone won the all-around title at the Pac-12 Invitational to repeat as the MPSF honoree. It is also his second consecutive NCAA Rookie of the Week selection, while the Gymnast of the Week nod is the first of his career, and the first for Stanford this season. The Cardinal has now won three of the first four MPSF Gymnast of the Week honors, with Grant Breckenridge nabbing the first following week one of competition.

Malone's second all-around title in as many weeks came in a meet featuring the Cardinal, California, Arizona State and Washington. The native of Summerville, Ga. turned in an all-around score of 84.200 to guide Stanford to a team-best 418.350 – the highest score in the nation last week. With the effort, Malone has now claimed two of the top-three all-around scores this season.

Malone finished top-four in all but one event at the Invitational, including taking second place in the pommel horse (career-best 13.650) and parallel bars (14.000). He captured third place overall in the still rings with a career-best 14.300, and added another career-high in the vault at 14.550 to share a third-place finish. Malone's final top-four finish came in the high bar, where he hit for a 13.600 to earn fourth overall and help Stanford claim three of the top-four spots in the event.

Thanks to the stellar Saturday in Tempe, Ariz., Malone now ranks eighth overall in the all-around, 11th in the vault, and 12th in the pommel horse and parallel bars.

Malone and the Cardinal will once again make the short trip to Cal this week, facing the Golden Bears on Saturday, February 9 at 6 p.m. from Haas Pavilion.
