Long Day, Quick Match

SEATTLE - No. 1 Stanford blanked No. 18 LSU 4-0 on Friday night in the opening round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

Competing in the tournament for the first time since winning the event in 2011, the Cardinal ripped off four singles victories, with Emily Arbuthnott providing the 6-2, 6-2 clincher.

Originally slated for a 3:30 p.m. start at the Nordstrom Tennis Center, the match was initially moved up to 2 p.m. as all events on the University of Washington campus starting after 3 p.m. were canceled due to inclement weather. Later in the day, it was announced that the match would be shifted to the Seattle Tennis Club, where the Cardinal had to wait through the finish of Northwestern/Texas.

Stanford next faces Texas on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
