Fisher, Milt Win Region Awards

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford's Chris Miltenberg was named Men's Coach of the Year and Grant Fisher earned Men's Track Athlete of the Year honors for indoor track's West Region, as selected by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Miltenberg, in his seventh year as Stanford's Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track and Field, led the Cardinal men to five school records this season and has four entries in the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 8-9 in Birmingham, Alabama. Stanford enters the meet ranked No. 13.

Stanford has two individuals among the top two in the nation in their events heading into NCAA's. Grant Fisher broke an American collegiate record in the 3K and Harrison Williams is the top American collegian in the heptathlon and seeded No. 2 overall.

This is the first time Miltenberg has won this award, but the third time he has won USTFCCCA West Region Coach of the Year, having won two in cross country.

Fisher, a junior from Grand Blanc, Michigan, became the fourth-fastest performer with the fourth fastest time in collegiate history in the 3,000 when he won the elite section of the Millrose Games in 7:42.62 on February 9. He also anchored Stanford's DMR team to a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title and an NCAA berth. He will race in both events at the NCAA meet.

Fisher is the first athlete from Stanford to win this award since Elliott Heath in 2011, but he has won other awards from the USTFCCCA, including three national Scholar-Athlete of the Year distinctions.
