No Doubles, No Problem

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 5 Stanford overcame an early deficit and posted a 5-2 victory over Arizona State on Friday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Despite losing the doubles point for the first time this season and falling behind at the start of singles play, Stanford (9-1) won its 29th consecutive regular-season conference match and remained unbeaten in six contests at home.

Arizona State (5-7), which has been competitive in each of its three conference losses, captured the doubles point on the strength of its top duo of Ilze Hattingh and Lauryn John-Baptiste handing Caroline Lampl and Kimberly Yee a rare loss – the first in nearly two months for Stanford's No. 1 pairing.

Then again, the Cardinal showed little panic and bounced back, having now won 16 of its last 21 matches in which it loses the doubles point dating back to 2016.

Lampl evened the match at 1-1 following a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 3 spot, extending her winning streak to 10.

The Sun Devils, who were the last Pac-12 opponent to defeat Stanford back on March 5, 2016, regained the lead at 2-1 when Hattingh closed out a 6-1, 6-2 win over Melissa Lord at the top spot of the lineup.

Stanford's depth then took over, with Emily Arbuthnott starting a run of four straight victories.

Emma Higuchi provided her second clincher of the season, prevailing 6-3, 6-3 on court six.

The Cardinal has won 54 of its last 57 contests at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Stanford continues its homestand on Saturday, hosting Arizona at noon.
