Stanford Outlasts UCLA

STANFORD, Calif. - Jordan Ewert would not be denied on Senior Night, leading No. 8 Stanford to a 23-25, 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 15-10 win over No. 4 UCLA, Saturday, at Maples Pavilion.

Playing in his final regular season match at home, Ewert finished with 23 kills on .514 hitting, four digs, two blocks and an ace. He was recognized with his fellow seniors, Kyle Dagostino, Russell Dervay and Chris Moore, in a postmatch ceremony. 

Stanford (14-8) hit .430 and held UCLA (16-6, 6-2 MPSF) to a .274 clip. The Cardinal remains in fourth place in the MPSF standings at 5-4, just a half game behind a 5-3 Pepperdine. 

Dagostino tallied eight digs an eight assists, including an off-balance two-handed jump set to Ewert in the fifth set. 
 


Setter Paul Bischoff controlled the offense with 52 assists, setting the Cardinal up to hit .430 as a team. The junior also collected seven digs, two blocks and two kills. 

Sophomore opposite Jaylen Jasper registered 18 kills on a .355 attack percentage, six kills and three blocks, including back-to-back stuffs in the pivotal third set. Junior outside hitter Eric Beatty brought it on both sides of the ball Saturday, finishing with 12 kills on 17 swings with just two errors to hit a season-high .588, and eight digs and three blocks. 

Not to be outdone, sophomore Kyler Presho also hit over .500, tallying nine kills on a .538 clip. The middle blocker also matched his season-high with a match-best seven blocks.
 


UCLA was led by senior Micah Ma'a did it all for the Bruins, turning in a double-double with 26 assists and 10 digs. He also had seven kills and five aces. 

Stanford will take a break next week for finals and be back in action on March 29 at No. 10 USC.
