Blocked at Concordia

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 6 Stanford fell for the second straight night, dropping a 25-20, 14-25, 14-25, 22-25, at Concordia, Saturday, at CU Arena.
 
Stanford (14-10) remains in fifth-place in the MPSF at 5-6 with one match remaining in the regular season (at Grand Canyon, April 6).
 
The Eagles (14-16) moved to 3-7 in the conference with its second upset of a top-10 opponent this week. It was Senior Night for Concordia, which hit .464 and finished with 16.0 blocks and eight service aces.
 
Stanford appeared to be on the right track after the opening set, playing in its second straight match without sophomore opposite Jaylen Jasper. Junior Eli Wopat started in Jasper's place and had three kills in the first.
 
Stanford was held to its lowest offensive output of the season (.170), and finished with just 18 digs. The Cardinal tallied 7.0 blocks and five aces, but had 21 attack errors and 17 service errors.
 
Senior outside hitter Jordan Ewert, who had a season-high 24 kills on Friday at USC, was limited to just six kills and hit -.038. Junior outside hitter Eric Beatty also hit negative on the evening (-.091) with two kills and three digs.
 
Junior setter Paul Bischoff recorded 29 assists, seven digs, three blocks and an ace. Fifth-year senior libero Kyle Dagostino added four digs and three assists.
 
Wopat finished with a team-best nine kills on .353 hitting in three sets played. Sophomore Leo Henken came off the bench to hit .600 (6-0-10) in two sets, while sophomore JP Reilly chipped in with three kills in two sets played.  Middle blockers Kyler Presho and Stephen Moye combined for 10 kills and six blocks.
 
Concordia was led by redshirt junior Jordan Hoppe's 16 kills on .682 hitting, while redshirt junior Raymond Barsemian had 10 kills and seven blocks for the Eagles.
 
It was Stanford's first loss to an unranked opponent in over a year – last at home against USC (March 17, 2018).
 
Stanford closes out the regular season on the road next week, traveling to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon on April 6.
