PHOENIX, Ariz. – Junior Andrea Lee secured a three-way tie for first place Sunday in the Ping/ASU Invitational to earn a share of the program record for career wins.
She closed with an even-par 72 at Papago Golf Course to match Bethany Wu of UCLA and Stephanie Lau of Northwestern at 7-under 209 in the 15-team, 54-hole tournament. Lee recorded four birdies in the final round and toured the back nine in 2-under 34.
She now has eight individual titles, matching Mhairi McKay (1994-97) for the most in Stanford history.
"it's incredible what Andrea has accomplished during her time at Stanford," said Anne Walker, the Margo and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf. "She has established herself as one of the best Stanford players of all-time and has now positioned herself to earn the most victories in school history. Words can't do this moment justice."
Lee becomes the sixth Cardinal women's golfer to win the Ping/ASU Invitational, joining Stephanie Keever (2001), Hilary Homeyer (1998), McKay (1996), Martha Richards (1993) and Pat Cornett (1975).
Last month, Lee registered her first victory of the season at the Northrop Grumann Regional Challenge near her hometown of Hermosa Beach, Calif. She is rated second among women's collegiate players and No. 3 in the Women's World Golf Rankings.
In 30 career starts for Stanford, Lee has recorded eight wins, 25 top-10's and 20 top-5's. In six events this season, she is an accumulative 10-under and has broken par in 11 of 16 rounds.
"Mhairi was atop the win category for 25 years," Walker said. "I can only imagine that Andrea will be there just as long, if not longer. We are so proud of her and honored that she choose to be a Stanford Cardinal."
As a team, No. 3 Stanford finished fifth with a score of 1-over 865. USC captured the crown at 5-under 859, followed by host ASU at 860.
The Cardinal also received top-20 showings from junior Albane Valenzuela (74) and freshman Calista Reyes (71), who tied for 20th at 1-over 217. Freshman Aline Krauter (72) tied for 29th at 4-overr 220, while sophomore Kelsey Zeng (78) tied for 32nd at 5-over 221. Sophomore Mika Liu (76) tied for 38th at 6-over 222 and junior Ziyi Wang (78) tied for 43rd at 7-over 223.
Reyes and Zeng competed as individuals.
Stanford is back in action April 7-9 in the Silverado Showdown at Silverado Resort & Spa in Napa, Calif.
